Richard Grenier was taken 65th overall by the New York Islanders at the 1972 Amateur Draft, but only played ten NHL-games in his rookie season. After a couple of years in the minor leagues, he left North America for Europe. There, besides three seasons in Finland and Italy, he mainly played in the Austrian league. After eight seasons or 274 games with 550 points, he won the Austrian championship with VEU Feldkirch in the last year of his professional career. Grenier also represented the Austrian national team in one World Championship (Pool B).
