- Drafted 1973, round 6 #76 overall by Winnipeg Jets in the WHA Amateur Draft |
Ron Kennedy, a 5th round pick by the New York Islanders in 1973, never competed on NHL level. He spent seven years in North American minor leagues and moved to Europe later on, where he played for clubs in Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. He appeared in 73 games for the Austrian side Innsbrucker EV, collecting a total of 133 points (54 goals, 79 assists) and 152 penalty minutes. Later on, Kennedy became a very successful coach. He worked as an assistant coach with the New York Islanders and led Villacher SV to three Austrian championship titles. Furthermore, Kennedy was head coach for the Austrian national team for six years.
Ron Kennedy passed away on July, 9th, 2009 after losing his battle against cancer.
