Samsonov entered the NHL with a boom. Displaying impressive stickhandling ability and terrific shiftiness, he was named Rookie of the Year. A wrist injury suffered during the 2002-03 season was the beginning of the end for the Russian winger. The following year, knee and rib injuries slowed him down further, and the old Samsonov never really returned.
