Player Biography and Trivia

Number 9 retired by Swift Current Broncos

Kruger was one of four victims killed when the Swift Current Broncos team bus crashed on its way to a WHL game in Regina on December 30, 1986. Three of his teammates, Trent Kresse, Chris Mantyka and Brent Ruff, were also killed in the accident. The WHL named its Player of the Year award the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy in honour of the four Broncos players who were killed in the bus crash. The Swift Current Broncos retired the player jersey numbers and the numbers were included on a shoulder patch that can be seen on the Broncos' jerseys.
