Berg was considered a top prospect with offensive potential, but never really lived up to the expectations. He turned into a reliable defensive defenseman instead. Berg had great size and was a pretty good open ice hitter during his career, but did not play the body as much he could have. He was a decent skater and had a hard shot, but had limited offensive skills. Returned to hockey as an equipment manager after retiring as a player.
