Spelskicklig defensiv back som tillhörde Djurgårdens starka backbesättning på 1960-talet tillsammans med Rolle Stoltz och Lasse Björn.

Var juniorlandslagsman i ishockey och friidrott (längdhopp) samma år.
Debuterade i Tre Kronor 1960 mot Norge i Göteborg. Sverige vann med 6-2 och Wingren spelade i samma backpar som lagkamraten från Djurgården Ove Malmberg

Jobbade efter sin tid som spelare inom Duvbo IK friidrott där han bland annat är ordförande och fått ett eget pris uppkallat efter sig.

Bor i Sundbyberg.
