Film Room: Daniel Nieminen making a case as one of the top over-agers in the 2025 draft

Last year, Daniel Nieminen was one of the defencemen on our 2024 board who ended up going undrafted. Now, there's a very good chance he makes our board again, and this time, he might have a better shot at being selected by an NHL team.

Heading into last year's draft, Nieminen already had one of the stronger résumés among draft-eligible Finnish blueliners. He led the entire U20 league in scoring among U18 defencemen, averaging 0.78 points per game with Pelicans. Internationally, he was among Finland's most productive blueliners as well, even if his U18s weren't particularly impressive.

Still, even our team didn’t necessarily expect Nieminen to transition to professional hockey as quickly and smoothly as he did this season.
