Ilya Protas has been having a great post-draft season in the OHL, mirroring the breakout of his brother Alexei Protas with the Washington Capitals in the NHL. Likely due to both factors, there is intensified interest in Ilya Protas.

 The questions remain though, why did he fall so late in the draft? Can he reach the upside of his brother? How high can Protas play in the lineup? Let's see if we can answer those questions!  

Protas was taken 75th overall in the 2024 NHL draft out of the USHL. He had a solid season for the Des Moines Buccaneers registering 51 points in 61 games played, but it wasn’t enough to earn a ranking for the Elite Prospects team.
