The Minnesota Wild claimed a solid win at home against the second-placed Edmonton Oilers in the NHL on Tuesday. The matchup finished 5-1 (1-0, 3-0, 1-1) and was an important stage in the race to the top.

The standings remain unchanged with Minnesota Wild in third place and Edmonton Oilers is in second place.

Minnesota Wild has extended their lead in their division to 96 points, while Nashville sits seven points back.

The hosting Wild took the lead early into the period into the first period, with a goal scored by Frédérick Gaudreau.

The Wild were strong in the second, receiving goals from Kevin Fiala (2) and Ryan Hartman.

In the third, Ryan Hartman scored his second goal four minutes into the third period, assisted by Jordie Benn and Kirill Kaprizov, increasing the lead for the Wild.

In the third period, Leon Draisaitl scored in the sixth minute of the period, assisted by Tyson Barrie and Zach Hyman, closing the gap for the Oilers. The 5-1 goal would be the last one of the game.

Minnesota Wild improves to 45–21–6, while Edmonton Oilers drops to 42–26–6.

On Thursday, April 4, Wild face the Dallas Stars at 8 p.m. and Oilers take on the Nashville Predators road at 8 p.m.
