Breaking down the top goalies in the men's college hockey transfer portal

That’s what one NCAA coach told Elite Prospects this week when asked about the number of goalies — 48 in all — in the transfer portal. 

And it makes a ton of sense. While the transfer portal is running wild for skaters, goalies are the closest thing hockey has to NCAA football’s quarterback carousel. Ultimately, only one can play, and with the new NCAA rules, the backups with professional career aspirations will likely look for another crease to compete for.

On top of that, the availability of ex-CHL goalies, including all of the starters in the Frozen Four, has created more of an impetus for goalies to push for and control their own futures when it comes to playing time.
