NCAA Tournament Takes Day 2: Penn State and Denver get upsets, but BC and UConn survive

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — The four games on the first day of the NCAA tournament featured a ton of drama, with two of them going to OT, and another ending with a stunning late loss by the No. 2 team in the country.

Early in the afternoon, it felt like things might be very much the same, but by sundown, No. 1 Boston College had survived a serious scare from 16th-ranked Bentley, UConn threw a blanket over in-state rival Quinnipiac, and the reigning national champions were in the middle of what ended up being a blowout. Technically, Denver beating Providence wasn't "chalk," but this was the 9-seed beating the No. 8, and again, everyone knows the Pioneers' pedigree, so who could be surprised?

The only unpredictable outcome was Penn State absolutely nuking Maine.
