MONTREAL, Quebec—The 4 Nations Face-Off is officially upon us. As with any new event, expectations vary depending on who you ask. Some folks see this as a glorified All-Star game to break up the NHL schedule and appease the casual fan with some fun nationalistic hockey.

Then there's the way the players see it: as a chance to represent their country against some of the world's best players and compete for glory.
