John Tortorella has been working in the NHL since the 1980s, longer than all but 32 active players in the league have been alive.
He got his start as an assistant with the 1989-90 Buffalo Sabres, and since then has been a head coach with six different teams over more than a quarter century. Only five coaches ever — Scotty Bowman, Paul Maurice, Lindy Ruff, Joel Quenneville, and Barry Trotz — have been the head coach for more regular-season games than his 1,628. Only Mike Keenan and Rick Bowness have coached more different teams.
