Rod Bryden

Rod Bryden, a successful business executive, became the majority owner of the Ottawa Senators after he acquired Terrace Investments from Bruce Firestone on August 17, 1993.

Bryden managed to secure funding for the Palladium arena project through a number of loans. The Senators filed for bankruptcy on January 9, 2003, due to debt owed its largest creditor, Covanta Energy Corporation, that had filed for bankruptcy on April 1, 2002. As a result of these bankruptcies, the Senators franchise and the arena, known as Corel Centre at the time, was sold to Eugene Melnyk.

Bryden was also the owner of an AHL franchise, the Prince Edward Island Senators, as his predecessor had acquired the New Haven Senators from Peter Shipman on April 11, 1993. This franchise was relocated it to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. It ceased operations in 1996.
