Don Kirnan

Donald Kirnan is best known as the Commissioner of the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) that was initially known as the Federal Hockey League (FHL). He has acted in this capacity since 2009. Before venturing into minor league hockey, he was a coach, owner and executive in junior hockey.

In junior hockey, Kirnan is known as the founder of the Syracuse Stars Junior Hockey Club. He has acted in various coaching and executive roles with the club teams.

Kirnan has held ownership stakes in multiple FPHL franchises over the years. He was the owner of the Cape Cod Barons until March 3, 2011, when the franchise was sold to the Cape Cod Hockey Development Foundation and renamed the Cape Cod Bluefins. He became the owner of the Watertown Wolves franchise in 2016. He sold a majority stake in the franchise to Andreas Johansson in April 1, 2020. He became a co-owner of the franchise again in the summer of 2024 and replaced Barry Soskin as the majority owner midway through the 2024-25 season. He sold his stake in the franchise to Daniel Drake on May 2, 2026.

Kirnan was also a minority owner of the Binghamton Black Bears expansion franchise for two seasons, from 2021 to 2023. He also became the owner of the Fresno Falcons and the Stockton Thunder franchises in May 2026.
