Marcel Aubut is a Canadian lawyer and a former hockey executive who spearheaded a group that acquired the Québec Nordiques from Carling-O'Keefe Brewery on December 11, 1988. He sold the franchise to telecommunications company COMSAT on July 1, 1995. The franchise was relocated to Denver, Colorado, and became the Colorado Avalanche that operated as part of Ascent Entertainment Group, a COMSAT subsidiary.
Aubut also owned the Halifax Citadels AHL franchise, which became the Cornwall Aces after the franchise was relocated from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Cornwall, Ontario, in 1993. This franchise was also sold to COMSAT, which operated the franchise for one more season, before selling it as an inactive franchise to Howard Baldwin, Morris Belzberg, Roger Marino and Thomas Ruta, the owners of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
