Robert James 'Bob' Davis and Robert Snyder bought the the Louisville Riverfrogs from an ownership group that included Gary Ulmer and Ed Glasscock for $1.5 million in February 1998. They subsequently relocated the ECHL franchise and renamed it the Miami Matadors.
The Matadors performed poorly on and off the ice, which meant that the franchise folded after only one season in Miami, Florida. The ownership group sold the franchise to Phil Esposito, Paul Lawless and David LeFevre, who moved the folded franchise to Cincinnati, Ohio, were it became the Cincinnati Cyclones in 2001.
