Stephen Nuell and Jay Weiss became part owners of the Miami Matadors in September 1998.
The Matadors performed poorly on and off the ice, which meant that the franchise folded after only one season in Miami, Florida. The ownership group sold the franchise to Phil Esposito, Paul Lawless and David LeFevre, who moved the folded franchise to Cincinnati, Ohio, were it became the Cincinnati Cyclones in 2001.
