Charles F. Dolan is the founder and controlling owner Cablevision Systems Corporation, which together with ITT Corporation acquired the New York Rangers in 1994. Dolan also founded the Sterling Manhattan Cable, which later on evolved to the Home Box Office Inc. (HBO). He sold all of his HBO assets to Time-Life, Inc. by September 1973. In 2010 Cablevision spun-off some of its assets, including the New York Rangers, to a new company, The Madison Square Garden Company. The new company adopted the same Class A and Class B share structure as Cablevision, which saw the Dolan family retain control of the New York Rangers. Much of the Class A shares are tradeable are owned by various investors, but the Class B shares owned by the Dolans are not tradeable.
