Ambrose O'Brien played a key role in the foundation of the National Hockey Association, predecessor of NHL. In the same year, 1909, he founded the Montreal Canadiens despite owning the team only in their inaugural season. O'Brien was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Builder category in 1962. He passed away on April 24, 1968.
