Scott Thomas Shaunessy retired as a player in 1993 and became was a part-owner and Executive Director of the WPHL Austin Ice Bats in 1996. He returned to playing during the season, only to hang up the skates again after the playoffs.
Shaunessy, Duncan Gillespie and Bill MacFarlane became the owners of the Tupelo T-Rex. The franchise was originally slated to play in the Central Hockey League, as announced on November 25, 1997, but the team opted to join the rival Western Professional Hockey League instead, as announced on March 10, 1998.
He became an owner of another WPHL franchise, the Arkansas GlacierCats. This time he teamed up with Daniel Hart, Paul Lawless and Edward Novess.
He then made one more comeback as a player with the Forth Worth Brahmas.
