Fredrick Joseph 'Fred' Whitney (born Witkowski) made his fortune as a stockbroker. He and his son Tim Whitney became minority owners of the Carolina Hurricanes on November 3, 2011. They sold their stake in the franchise to Tom Dundon on June 30, 2021. He died on March 2, 2022.
