James 'Jim' Gillespie made his fortune in offshore pipeline engineering business. He became a minor owner of the Belfast Giants after acquiring a 10% stake in the franchise in 2002. He bought out the other owners, Albert Maasland and Bob Zeller, after the collapse of the BISL.
