Christopher Knight reportedly made his fortune in telecommunications. He acquired the Belfast Giants from Jim Gillespie for £145 000 in November 2012. The arena owner and operator, Odyssey Trust Ltd., terminated the arena lease, followed by the resignation of the players and the staff, in February 2013, after it came to light that Knight had been placed on a sex offenders' registery in the state of Florida (adjudication withheld) in 2003.
