Returning to Montreal the day after a 4-3 shootout loss, New Jersey came out sharp and never let the Canadiens get comfortable. Timo Meier opened the scoring on a tap-in set up by Jack Hughes, Cody Glass made it 2-0 with a highlight individual effort late in the second, and Connor Brown closed it out on an empty net. Markström was tested — including two difficult stops on Cole Caufield chasing career goal No. 50 — but held firm for the 25th shutout of his career as the Devils extended their remarkable winning streak in Montreal to 11 games.
