The Hurricanes claimed their fourth Metropolitan Division title in six years with a wild 6-5 overtime win over Boston, despite Boston's Morgan Geekie completing a hat trick late in the second to pull the Bruins within one. A goaltender change after five goals against Jeremy Swayman gave Boston new life, with a Pavel Zacha equalizer tying it 5-5 midway through the third. But Jaccob Slavin ended it 1:13 into OT — tapping home a Sebastian Aho feed for his first goal of the season and Carolina's biggest moment of their home finale.
