With the Flames' net empty in the dying minutes at Ball Arena, Gross backhanded home a rebound of Matvei Gridin's shot from the top of the crease to score his first NHL goal in his third career game, cutting Colorado's lead to 2-1. Though the Flames momentarily thought they'd tied it moments later, a successful Avalanche offside challenge erased the goal.
