Vegas had the lead at the 6:52 mark of the first period, but Staal restored parity at 11:46 with a high-slot redirection off a feed from Nikolaj Ehlers — his sixth goal of the Stanley Cup Final. The tally extended his scoring streak to five consecutive games to open a Final, the longest such run in the expansion era and joining Maurice Richard, Jean Béliveau and Yvan Cournoyer as the only players in NHL history to accomplish it.
