Nicolas Roth's Smart Assist: A Playmaker's Vision in Action
Nicolas Roth (#15) – Smart Read & Assist Creates Open-Net Finish Against Szeklerland Ice Hockey Academy, Nicolas Roth (#15) actively tracks the developing play behind him, turning to maintain full awareness of the puck and his teammates’ movement. Recognizing that his team is about to transition into attack, he immediately makes himself available and calls for the pass. After receiving the puck, Nicolas draws the goaltender’s attention as a potential shooting threat. Instead of taking the expected shot, he quickly returns the puck to his teammate. The goaltender has already committed to Nicolas, leaving his teammate with a nearly open net for the finish. A simple-looking assist created by reading the play before receiving the puck: scanning, anticipation, positioning, presenting a shooting threat, and choosing the pass that opens the net for his teammate.
