First ever coach of the Grande Prairie Storm, while still in the RMJHL, in 1995-96, and coached after the team transferred to the AJHL, until the end of the 1998-99 season, ending up with a .627 win percentage (2nd only to current coach-GM Mike Vandekamp’s .676, as of Feb. 09).

Later coached: Kootenay Ice (WHL) assistant coach (1999-2000), Kootenay Ice (WHL) head coach (2000-01, 2002-07 - compiling a .637 winning percentage with 209 wins, 146 losses; and the Ice made the playoffs each of those five seasons), Binghamton Senators (AHL) head coach (2007-09, leaving midseason Feb. 09), and Ottawa Senators head coach (2009-present, taking over in Feb. 2009)

Two-time WHL coach of the year, Canadian Hockey League coach of the year in 2004-05. Assistant coach of Canada's national under-18 squad that won the 2005 U-18 Junior World Cup, and coached the gold-medal winning Canadian squad in 2006

He holds a bachelor's degree in recreation administration.
