        Elite Prospects Notes and Trivia

        History
The Palm Beach Lions team is a hockey curiosity. The team existed briefly when the dormant Moncton Hawks was sold to Bruce J. Frey and Lowell Paxson and relocated to Palm Beach, FL, in 1996, as approved by the AHL Board of Governors on July 30, 1996.

The Lions were slated to begin play in the West Palm Beach Auditorium in 1997-1998. However, the following summer the aging 1965 built arena was sold to Jehovah's Witnesses who renovated and converted the building into a convention center.

With the sale of the arena and no replacement in sight, the franchise remained dormant. In 1999 the franchise was relocated to Louisville, KY, and became known as the Louisville Panthers.
