History:

Lempäälän Kisa was founded in 1904 as a multi-sport club. The hockey section was founded in 1955. The hockey team rose to national prominence when it was promoted to Mestis in 2007.

In Mestis LeKi has operated with a fairly modest budget. It has served as an affiliate to Ilves and Tappara SM-liiga teams due to Lempäälä's close proximity to Tampere. LeKi usually had a number of its own players on its roster, but also accepted player assignments from Liiga teams. It was therefore at times dubbed as a Mestis farm team.
