2-time Czech Extraliga Champion 2

Balastik had good size and quite a bit of experience. He was a reliable goal scorer on all levels of play. Balastik owned a high-calibre wrist shots, which he often used. He read the game well, which furthermore assisted his scoring ability. Feet were pretty quick, but the knock on him was his play without the puck and his passing game.

Bio

Jaroslav started his career in HC Zlin and with this team he made big success. He represented Czech republic in U18 and U20 championships. Along with Petr Leska he was one of the key players of HC Zlin. Balaštík was drafted as an overage player in the 6th round, 184th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He spent part of the season 2002-03 in the Finnish SM-Liiga, but returned back to Zlin after the end of the season. In the 2003-04 season he became the Czech champion with his beloved team and he scored most goals in both regular season and playoffs. In the following season he retained the trophy for the most goals in the regular season.

Balaštík started 2005 season with the Syracuse Crunch, the Blue Jackets' AHL affiliate. He was quickly promoted to the first team, where he became somewhat of a shootout-specialist, going 6-for-9 for the season. However, in his second season he was given lmited opportunity and rather than playing in AHL, Balaštík was realeased and assigned to the Swedish HV71.

For 2007-08 he rejoined HC Zlin, again he scored most goals in the whole league and from the following season he was serving as the captain. During 2011-12 he was loaned to BK Mlada Boleslav, but after the season he returned to Zlin.

At the end of the 2013-14 season he could celebrate his second Czech champion title. He started the next season in Zlin but after bad start of the season he was loaned to Bili Tygri Liberec. After the end of the season he decided to retire, citing lack of motivation. After retiring he became an hockey agent.

Jaroslav Balaštík represented Czech republic on three World championships (2003, 2006, 2007), winning one silver medal (2006).
