History:
John Shelby Amos, II, acquired the Columbus Cottonmouths CHL franchise from Martha Morrow and the dormant Hampton Roads Admirals ECHL franchise from Mark Garcea and Page Johnson with his wife Wanda Amos and his uncle Sal Diaz-Verson in 2001.

Diaz-Verson subsequently applied to move the ECHL franchise to Bradenton, FL, and rebranded it as the Gulf Coast Swords in 2004, while Shelby and Wanda Amos applied to ice the Cottonmouths in the new formed SPHL. The SPHL franchise was relocated to Birmingham, AL, and rebranded as the Birmingham Bulls after he and his wife sold the SPHL franchise to a group led by Art Clarkson in 2017.
