History
The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks operated from 1997-1998 to 2004-2005. The franchise lost their affiliation with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, which prompted the owners to rename and rebrand the franchise as the Cincinnati RailRaiders. The purpose was to return to AHL for 2006-2007, but the franchise failed to secure enough support during its inactivity in 2005-2006.
The franchise was to be sold to a group of investors with the intent to relocate it to a planned arena in Tecumseh, ON, but the investors never exercised the option to buy the franchise. The franchise was relocated from Cincinnati, OH, to Rockford, IL, when the Rockford IceHogs acquired the franchise in order to move up from the UHL to play in the AHL.
