Gerd Schröder is remembered as a long-time owner of the Frankfurt Lions. He was initially a minority owner, but he took charge of the team in January 1997, acquiring all the shares in the financially struggling Lions from Gisela Thomas and Claus Wisser for a symbolic price of one Deutsche Mark. He was owner the club until his death in August 27, 2008.
